The fall colors here bring about ineffable awe.
The oldest living organism in the world lies sleeping in Utah. This is Pando (ex the great trembling giant ) which is estimated 80,000-1,000,000 years old. We came here just in time when the Aspens were changing color (first week of October). Now it's magnificent seeing the aspens golden yellow but knowing that all these trees are part of one large organism?!?!? That is truly beautiful!
So while you are driving into the forest, you will see the sign for fish lake. This is the best place to pull in the driveway and walk around Pando forest. You don't have to go too far as the forest is most dense here and and it doesn't have an official parking or landmark.
Come here and enjoy this oldest organism as some reports shows it as dying. A marvelous view/experience indeed!
80,000 years old and still alive! Truly amazing!
Once I learned of Pando, I had to see him. (Yes, the big old boy is male, or so I've read.) He is dying. Now, I'm torn; glad to have stood surrounded by the ancient one, but wonder if I should have been satisfied with just knowing. (The other reviews here are spot on) In parting; I bet that most that have the opportunity to drive to Fish Lake, UT along state route 25 don't even know of "The Trembling Giant".
The largest living thing on Earth!!! All trees are in fact one single organism which is ancient!
